NBC Releases Fall Schedule...Sci-Fi and Geekery run rampant
NBC has released their new fall schedule, and while my favorite show, “Studio 60” didn’t make the cut, there are some interesting new shows coming our way this fall. From an American version of “the IT Crowd”, to a new “Bionic Woman” series, and the time traveling “Journeyman” – we’re getting some cool geeky stuff this year from NBC.
The IT Crowd is an obvious attempt to recreate the success of The Office…even with the casting of a guy from a cable news show in one of the lead roles (Joe McHale, “The Soup”). While I have always found Joe to be a bit annoying on The Soup, the fact that Richard Ayoade (from the UK version of The IT Crowd) is reprising his role the series makes this a MUST WATCH for me. If you haven’t seen the UK show, I’m sure you can find it on YouTube. It’s hilarious.
The Bionic Woman is a “re-imagining” of the concept that has been described as part Alias, part Smallville, part Dark Angel. I’m eager to give this one a chance, because I’ve always love the concept behind the “Bionic” series. Who knows…this might lead to us getting a “6 BILLION Dollar Man” series down the road. I’m all for cyborgs in prime time.
Journeyman sounds, at first, like it really wants to be Quantum Leap. It’s the story of a man who finds himself traveling through time to change people’s lives. The difference is that he’s not becoming other people. He’s still himself, and has to live his life. Here’s a bit from the show description that REALLY makes me interested in this show: “Along the way, he also must deal with the difficulties and strife at work and home brought on by his sudden disappearances. However, his freewheeling travels through the decades reunite him with his long-lost fiancée Livia (Moon Bloodgood, “Day Break”) — which complicates his present-day life with wife Katie (Gretchen Egolf, “Martial Law”) and their son.” This one is probably the show I’m looking forward to the most out of these new series.
