Next Best Thing to a Real Halo Movie
Neill Blomkamp’s big-budget Halo movie isn’t happening anytime soon. But one group of dedicated Halo fans decided not to sit around and fret of this unfortunate state of affairs. So they pooled their resources to create Helljumper, a forthcoming web series that looks good enough for Hollywood.
Across an unspecified number of episodes, Helljumper will tell the 27-year story of an ODST soldier named Gage Yevgenny, from a time before the war with the Covenant to the fabled Fall of Reach. The series employs some special effects and cinematography that look pretty darn good by Hollywood standards. (The trailer starts a bit slow, but wait for it — the good stuff kicks in around the 1:07 mark.)
The story is adapted from a short story in the book Halo: Evolutions called “Dirt,” which was written by science fiction author Tobias S. Buckell (who also wrote the bestselling Halo novel, The Cole Protocol). The series is directed by up-and-comer Dan Wang.
The series’ first episode is expected to premiere in January. In the meantime, you can learn more about the project at its official website.
