Next Gen iPods to be flash only?

According to Hardware analyst Jesse Tortora, the next generation of iPods will drop the HDD in favor of flash-based hard-drives. Even though new advances have been made recently in terms of perpendicular recording which allows for larger storage capacities with conventional HDDs, flash drives give the iPod a much better battery life.

“Apple currently offers 30GB and 80GB HDD-based models, and will have the option to increase storage capacity up to 120GB this year based on new perpendicular recording technology,” he wrote. “While the higher capacities would allow for more video storage, we view battery life as the key consideration for a move to flash.”

Well, it’s a fact that the iPhone will use flash memory, and it has been a while since the last “real” iPod upgrade. So this rumor might prove true. What do you think reader?
