Playstation 3's sales double in Japan
For once… there are some good news about Sony’s console which has been receiving everything but good press, after the initial “launch fever” cooled down. This amazing feature was achieved because of the new Gundam game that was just released in Japan and is also topping the game charts, which is quite impressive, considering that the Playstation 3 hasn’t sold nearly as many consoles as Nintendo has.
Here are the sales values of the top 6 consoles from February 26th to March 4th:
- DS Lite: 111, 814 units
- PSP: 66, 156 units
- Wii: 57,972 units
- PS3: 44,000 units
- PS2: 15,364 units
- Xbox 360: 3,379 units
On a second note, despite it’s amazing start, the Wii now seems to be slowly moving down in terms of sales. Could it be that Sony’s expected overtake is not far off, or will Nintendo’s sales pick up and maintain the Wii in first place when some of the most anticipated titles are released?
Only time will tell, but this editor’s opinion is that when Gran Turismo HD, Metal Gear Solid and Final Fantasy are released, the Playstation 3 will certainly start selling better. The XBox 360 is somewhere between those two in the battle, and unless they can release enough “must have” titles also, like Blue Dragon and Halo, they will start going through difficulties and probably switch to the third position of the home console rankings.
