Quiet Supersonic Plane by 2013
Sad that you never got to ride on one of the Concorde’s? Well, you might get your chance at still being able to go faster than sound in a few years as Lockheed Martin has been commissioned to create the QSST, or Quiet Supersonic Transport. A twelve seat private jet that will be able to break the sound barrier without breaking all the windows.
The QSST should be able to go as fast as 1200 miles per hour, or Mach 1.6, or for a better understanding that is New York to LA in two hours and fifteen minutes.
The most important factor of this new jet is the fact that its sonic boom will be upwards of 20dB quieter than the Concorede’s thanks to the design of the plane, especially its broad nose cone.
When can you expect to see these flying in the sky? Around 2013, but don’t expect to be able to afford to fly in one. Seems like currently this technology is only for the Donald Trumps of the world.
