Raise a Glass to the 50th Anniversary of Star Trek with Beer!

It’s been 50 years since Star Trek the original series graced our television sets! And after 7 different series (including the animated one and a new show on the way next year) alongside more than a dozen films, it’s time for fans to celebrate the legacy of what Star Trek has contributed to not just science fiction and pop culture, but to all aspects of human culture around the world. So it’s no surprise that beyond a new movie and an endless list of merchandise to commemorate the epic phenomenon, even the world of beer would go untouched by Trek. With the anniversary of the classic series upon us, Shmaltz Brewing Company and the Federation of Beer have teamed up to create specially brewed and officially licensed batches of 50th anniversary themed concoctions that will please beer drinkers and Star Trek fans alike, no matter what part of the galaxy you’re from.
While at San Diego Comic-Con 2016, we sat down with Vern Raincock from Delancey Direct (distributor) and Dan Curry from Shmaltz Brewing Company to talk about their latest offering, the Trouble with Tribbles Golden Anniversary Ale (good stuff!), and why it’s not simply a matter of slapping on a label to make any beer an official Star Trek beer.
If you want to get your hands on these limited Golden Anniversary editions, check with your local beer retailers or head to this month’s official Star Trek convention in Las Vegas, August 3-7 (that’s tomorrow!), where they will have a new batch on tap at the Rio Casino and Resort Hotel for the first time anywhere.
