Rest in Peace Gameboy
Despite the overall success of the Nintendo DS worldwide, and the positive response from the majority of gamers regarding their upcoming “Wii” console, not all Nintendo consoles are selling as well as big N had hoped.
In E3 2005, Reggie said that Nintendo was focusing on a 3 pillar strategy, and they would continue to support the GBA that was then revamped into the Gameboy Micro, and the new console (at the time): the Nintendo DS.
However, sales numbers do speak, and compared to the DS, or even the older Gameboy Advance SP, the Gameboy Micro, and the Gameboy in all it’s “incarnations” has failed to appeal customers. So don’t be surprised if we don’t see the Gameboy brand for a while.
The following article traces back everything that Nintendo did since it announced the Gameboy Micro and explains exactly why it failed, but, in case you can’t bother reading the 5 page article, in short, Nintendo hardly dedicated any of their time or money on it. No publicity, no face-plates, no nothing.
