Samsung and LG go Wi-Fi
Both Samsung and LG have announced that they will be ignoring the traditional methods of networking and designing their initial attempts at dual-mode handsets, ones which offer the ability to use both traditional cellphone operators and internet telephony providers like skype in a single handset, for a voice over Wi-Fi protocol. The two companies are working with Kineto to ensure use of their Unlimited Mobile Access software in all following dual-mode handsets. At the moment however, Samsung are simply at the stage of securing a license with Kineto whereas LG are already in collaboration with the firm and are beginning work on initial prototypes. Until Samsung or LG release their newest technologies the fixed-to-mobile market consists solely of BT’s ‘Fusion Project’ which suggests that prices will fall considerably in the near future and companies such as Nokia and Sony-Ericsson will be sharp to jump on the bandwagon.
