Samsung announces new SSD Disk (Flash-based)

Even though it’s not as impressive as the 300 TB article posted today, SSD disks are certainly here to stay because they offer many improvements over HDD in two aspects that are appealing to all users: they are faster, and consume less energy.

This latest chip has a 5Kb page size that improves both it’s read and write speeds, allowing it to become twice as fast as the previous Samsung Nand Disk.

Sounds like a dream, right? But what’s the catch. Well, the catch is that these SDD’s will only have (at start) 15GB of capacity, making it smaller than even the smallest HDDs. If you want a fast ultraportable machine that doesn’t need a lot of capacity, you should choose a laptop with SSD, if not, just choose a conventional disk. You can expect the first laptops with these disks to arrive during Summer, so look forward to that.
