Seams Geeky: Rockin' Geek-themed Embroidered Swag for Your Home
Okay, okay, so we’re geeks. So what? We’re proud of that fact and love to let the world know about it in our own special way. Whether we’re strolling around in our branded t-shirts, or rigging our smart phones to make them look like the Star Trek control board, we have an affinity to letting our geek flags fly. Now we can deck out our homes (and even our kids) with the help of Seams Geeky.
Seams Geeky started selling on Etsy in October 2012 as an embroidered geek-themed cloth diaper maker. The store’s owner, Elizabeth Dean, worked for years designing and refining her cloth diaper pattern that she’s titled, “The Pocket Protector”. Soon after opening she expanded her product line to include geeky hand towels, bath towels and even more recently patches. Can you imagine walking into your bathroom and seeing the Hyrule crest prominently hanging from your towel rack? Or as a parent, strapping on a Star Trek TNG diaper with full ranks on to your kid’s butt? Yeah, we think it’s pretty awesome too. You can see more at seams-geeky.com.
While her current embroidery machine is a fantastic home-use machine, it has its limitations. For example, the hoop size is relatively small. This hinders what size designs she can create as well as how many patches she can make at a time. It’s also incredibly slow, which has made the turnaround time on her products pretty slow. With the store’s growing popularity and her desire to branch out the product line, Seams Geeky has launched a Kickstarter to upgrade her equipment to an Amaya Bravo 16-needle professional machine. This one machine will be able to produce items 4X faster and will offer a larger hoop size to offer new products. Some of the potential products she has in mind includes hats, hoodies, throw pillows, and bath rugs.
On top of that, the Kickstarter rewards rewards are pretty freaking cool too. Are you an RPG geek? They have a design for you. How about an old-school gamer? Yeah, there are items for you. A Back to the Future fanatic? Yup, there is a glow-in-the dark option for you too. What about that Doctor Who nut on your shopping list? Oh boy, do they have some great stuff for that guy!
If the Kickstarter overfunds, she’s renamed “stretch goals” to “power-ups”. This will open up new product choices for the backers and also gives them an opportunity to get new equipment like a 3D printer, a screen printing set-up, and even a fabric printer to create their own geeky fabric prints.
Even if you can’t afford the current rewards, consider pledging what you can as an investment in getting yourself some sweet geek swag in the future. Visit her Kickstarter page here: bit.ly/seamsgeeky
