Second Class Supers - Fiction Where People Purchase Super Powers

Second Class Supers is the first novel by David Peralty and Annie Knowles. David, a long time blogger and web developer, came up with the idea and his wife, an Educational Assistant of children with special needs, collaborated and refined the story.

I constantly mapped out different stories on Google Docs as things I wanted to someday work on or write, but this was the first time where my wife seemed really excited about the idea and wanted to explore it with me. The collaboration was really easy for both of us, and it only took from May until November to complete our first draft despite only working on it for an hour or two every other evening.

Started in May 2013, the more than 80,000 word novel is currently going through another round of revisions as they prepare it for final editing and printing.

Second Class Supers follows Kya, an early thirties woman with the maturity of someone in their early twenties, as she struggles to find the money to purchase a Super. Super powers are the new class system in society, with a wide division being maintained between those that have them and those that don’t. In her struggles to buy into the “good life”, she finds out things about Supers, their creation, and what it does both to her friends and society at large.

Annie and David are currently trying to raise $2750 Canadian dollars to pay for professional editing and first edition printing of Second Class Supers. Pledges start at $1 and go up to $500 with options to receive the e-book, softcover, hardcover and naming minor characters. As of this write-up, they are nearly half of the way to their goal. It ends on August 30th, so check it out today!
