Sony Introduces 4GB NW-S706 DAP
Looks like Sony has finally decided to include color LCDs in their Flash based DAPs, thus moving them an inch closer to pretty much all their competitors. Although it isn’t the most important of features, being able to see the album art of a file is a big plus for me when scrolling through various music files (specially the ones written in Japanese, since my oriental reading isn’t all that great).
Features:
- 4GB Memory
- Noise cancelling technology (high value EX headphones)
- Channel separation
- Quick charge function
- 50 Hours battery life
- Line – in recording
- FM Tuner
- 3 colors: Black, Pink, and Purple
With the exception of the first two features and the line-in recording, this player remains pretty much the same as my old MP3 player, and my guess is that it still uses that (please let it die Sony) SonicStage software that everyone has grown to hate.
Having once owned a Sony flash DAP I have to say that this is a welcome upgrade, however it seems like it arrives a year too late. But even so, if it’s priced the same as the 4GB iPod Nano, or perhaps a bit less, it might drive away some Sony fans from buying the Nano, all three of them.
