Sony unveils it's first Organic El TV

After months of new Samsung breakthrough LCD announcements, Sony decided to step out of the closet and unveil the result of their long research with Organic LCDs and brings out a small television, with one of the thinnest screens in the world (although the support base of the product short of defeats that…): their first Organic El TV.

As you can tell from the picture, the TV isn’t that big, and only measures 11″. Considering this is the first “large” product with this new technology, I think that is understandable. The price is also considerable, considering the dimensions of the product, and it will be sold for €1220 ($1732 USD).

So what is the products biggest selling point. Most consumers don’t care about the technology behind their LCDs, as long as they are big and shiny. Well, the biggest selling for this product is, in my opinion, it’s 1.000.000:1 contrast ratio, which puts most of our currently available monitors to shame.

The TV will also support HD content, despite it’s resolution being QHD (960×540). You can expect to find this new product in Japan starting from December. So I guess it’s safe to presume that we will see it next Spring if it’s released outside of the land of the rising sun.
