Sprint Wireless Total Equipment Protection: Locate, Repair and Backup Your Phone With Ease

This post brought to you by Sprint. All opinions are 100% mine.

Having worked in the cellular industry for the last 15 years I can attest to the fact that cell phones typically don’t meet the end of their lifecycle, they are either lost, stolen or shattered into a bunch of tiny pieces (type of damage varies from person to person). In many cases users can buy protection for their phones, however after the 30 days period following your purchase passes the ability to buy that protection is typically lost forever, a fact Sprint Wireless is remedying by allowing users for a short period of time to enroll in their Total Equipment Protection even if they have owned their phones for more than 30 days.

The Sprint Wireless program is perfect for users who want to save data and protect their device. Using TEP users can sync their contacts with new devices, allowing them to always have a backup of friends, family and co-worker’s contact info, while their phones can be located using GPS tracking which pinpoints their smartphones location on a map.

For users worried about securing their phones information Sprint’s TEP program also offers remote wipe capabilities. Furthermore users can lock their phone letting thieves know that the phone won’t work for them anytime soon.
In my case I like the ability to sound an alarm from my computer, when my phones lost it’s usually under a cushion or hidden somewhere else in my house and an alarm is the perfect way to find my lost cell phone.
Customers who break their phones will pay a deductible of $50 or $100 based on the type of phone they are using, a small price to pay when you consider that a new Smartphone off contract can easily cost more than $400, such as the Sprint EVO at $449.
Sprint will allow for open enrollment of existing devices into the program up until August 30 and they have placed a countdown timer on their website so users know exactly how long they have to enroll:
Users who enroll will pay $8 per month for the service and for that price they’ll receive 24/7 customer service and next day phone replacement in most cases.
