Steampunk Droids

Steampunk R2-D2 by SpaceBoyRobot

If R2-D2 and C-3PO were born in an alternate universe — you know, one where the punks are all steamy — they might look something like this.

These babies are not mass produced. They’re hand-crafted by artist Jordan-Alexander Thomas, aka SpaceBoyRobot, who pieces his models/toys together out of recycled materials. Each robot toy/model is a true one-of-a-kind.

His C-3PO and R2-D2 come with some pretty awesome details. The best one: Artoo’s message from Princess Leia. There’s a close-up in one of the photos below. Thomas has done lots of other robots as well, including robot-izing human characters. Some come entirely out of his imagination, some come from other entertainment properties, like BioShock (see photo below) and WALL-E.

He travels to conventions showing off his work and selling them. He also frequently shows his work in art galleries. To see more (and there are tons of ’em), visit his Flickr account, or make a purchase from his Etsy store.
