Summer 2011 Anime Preview
The anime from this spring season are wrapping up, and that means it’s time for some new anime to fill the void. As usual, there are some anime that are destined to fail and others that may rise up above the rest. Here are just some titles which caught my eye.
The next installment in the Blood franchise, Blood-C should be on the watch list of any fans of “Blood: The Last Vampire” and “Blood+”. Little is known about the story at this point, but speculation based on the main character’s name (Saya) and the sword seen in promotional art, we can probably expect a story similar to Blood+.
Dantalian no Shoka
Dantalian no Shoka is only set to air 13 episodes, but if you’ve seen any of Gainax’s other action anime, you’ll know that they can deliver a lot of action within that time. The manga on which it is based on has also been well-received, indicating that at least the plot is good.
Kami-sama no Memo-chou
What will probably draw fans to this anime is the fact that one of the main characters is a young girl that happens to be a NEET. Anyone who has been watching anime for several years will know that any title starring a NEET or hikikomori is sure to draw attention. The plot also sounds similar to Gosick, which saw moderate success in the last two seasons.
There have been a number of ecchi (perverted) anime coming out in recent years that ranged from breast-sucking to boobs & zombies. Strangely (or maybe not), these titles always seem to gain a following of loyal fans. Considering Manyuu Hikenchou is about growing big breasts, I wouldn’t be surprised if it did just as well as its predecessors even if everything about it is horrible.
Nyanpire The Animation
This anime drew my interest for a couple of reasons. First of all, Nyanpire is a popular character in Japan with just about every type of merchandise you can imagine. While not as popular as Hello Kitty, it’s amazing how fast this gothic vampire cat has risen to fame. The second thing that interested me was that this is being produced by Gonzo, who is not known for making children’s anime and has been on the brink of collapse for a few years now. Nyanpire could be their first foray into a different genre, or their last attempt at a successful anime.
Thanks goes out to cowboybibimbop for compiling a list of upcoming anime.
