The Dark Knight Rises
That’s the title of Christopher Nolan’s next film: the eagerly awaited third (and likely final) film in his blockbuster Batman series.
I have to admit, I was hoping for something more original and sublime, like the leap from Batman Begins to The Dark Knight. Maybe another moniker for Batman, like The World’s Greatest Detective, although that’s not an applicable title for Nolan’s dark, noir-ish universe of organized crime.
I guess the filmmakers had as hard a time figuring out what that might be as the rest of us did. I remember seeing some fan-made posters that suggested Gotham City as the next title. That doesn’t really work either, but I was hoping for something more original than The Dark Knight Rises.
Oh well. Revealed in the same article where the title was revealed — an interview with Nolan himself — is the fact that the Riddler will not be in it, despite all the rumors. Just like the last movie, Nolan is directing based on a script by himself and his brother Jonah, which is based on a story by Nolan and David Goyer.
As for who the big villain is this time around, nobody’s saying, but you can bet it’s probably another member of the DC Comics character’s rogues gallery, like Catwoman, perhaps. Personally, I’d like to see Nolan go after a villain who’s never before been seen in film. How about a tortured, twisted take on Man-Bat or Killer Croc? Though admittedly, those sorts of supernatural creatures don’t seem to fit within Nolan’s universe, either.
Who’s your pick for Rising‘s baddie (or baddies)?
