The Lord of the Rings, Starring The Beatles
What do you get when The Beatles express their desire to star in a Lord of the Rings movie? Off the top of my head – something that will push you over the edge, either because you think it’s hilarious or you are having a WTF moment. The guys at Super Punch decided to hold an art contest last month featuring Stanley Kubrick’s Lord of the Rings, Starring the Beatles. The result? A mixture of those two reactions I mentioned above.
Apparently, The Beatles once were interested to be part of an LotR production. According to John at Super Punch, this is what happened: ((Source: Super Punch))
Once upon a time, The Beatles were interested in starring in a live-action version of The Lord of the Rings with Paul McCartney as Frodo Baggins, Ringo Starr as Sam Gamgee, George Harrison as Gandalf, and John Lennon as Gollum. They asked Stanley Kubrick to direct, but he declined (according to Wikipedia), or Tolkien killed the idea (according to Peter Jackson).
Building on the idea, John (the blogger, not the dead Beatle) decided to hold the contest, and here are some of the more eye catching entries.
Now I am not sure what to think of this one. What’s your verdict?
Compared to the first two, this drawing is way simple, but it does catch your eye, doesn’t it? Moreover, you’ll find the song playing in your head over and over again.
It just gets weirder and weirder. ;)
The contest is not over yet. If you have a brilliant idea, and you have some idle time in the next 24 hours, why don’t you send in your entry? The contest ends at midnight on December 31, 2010 – you might just win some cool prizes!
