The Walking Dead: The Game Announced

By all accounts, AMC’s The Walking Dead was the most exciting new show of 2010, delivering record ratings (for cable) and endless watercooler fodder. So a video game based on this couldn’t-be-hotter property seems like a foregone conclusion, right?
Well, yeah. But you may be surprised at who’s making The Walking Dead: The Game. It’s Telltale Games, the company best known for episodic adventures like Sam & Max and Strong Bad. Telltale has been making a major push lately into licensed Hollywood properties, an initiative that kicked off with Back to the Future: The Game (review) and the upcoming Jurassic Park: The Game.
The Walking Dead will be based on the TV show (which is based on Robert Kirkman’s comic book), and while it will be released episodically, don’t expect it to follow the “casual adventure” format the publisher is known for.
Telltale also announced a game in development for Vertigo Comics’ Fables, by Bill Willingham. Fables follows the story of fairy tale creatures who are exiled from their world into ours. Telltale has also updated their website for Jurassic Park, showing off the first trailer and screenshots from the game (which look rather good) and announcing that it will hit PCs and Macs in April. Here’s the trailer.
