TrackMania Nations Forever - Now Free
You can now download the excellent PC racer (with an unusual, mad track based slant) completely for free – now surely that’s just got to be the bargain of the year. The game is a sequel to the previous TrackMania Nations (released two years ago to good reviews) and offers a new ‘Forever’ version of the stadium environment and a single player mode with 65 brand new tracks.
One of the things that the TrackMania games have been noted for throughout their (fun and alternative take on racing) history is the multiplayer aspect. Forever is no exception, offering a large number of players and modes, as well as a high level of interactivity between players.
Apparently, for the first time, those who download the free game will be able to play against those who buy the retail version (TrackMania United Forever). This is by the means of using shared servers for the Stadium common to both games.
Granted, there are of course reasons to buy the retail, such as extra tracks that you won’t find anywhere else, new design blocks for in-game map creation (or rather circuit creation) and a graphics update to a few of the different environments.
The game features:
• 65 brand new, progressively difficult tracks
• A new ‘Forever’ version of the Stadium environment
• Engaging multiplayer modes
• A solid solo mode
• A brand new track editor
• Innovative communications between competing racers via PC
As a side note, previous versions of TrackMania had a propensity to be shipped with what some called a form of spyware, namely Starforce. This edition doesn’t feature this apparently, so it has to be good. You can find a list of all download locations on the official site here.
