'Transformers: Fall of Cybertron' Coming August 28

High Moon Studios has announced the release date for Transformers: Fall of Cybertron, along with a brand new trailer that shows off the game in action. And it’s looking promising.

The new trailer is titled “Our World,” and it’s jam-packed with loads of gameplay footage. The war doesn’t seem to be going so well for the Autobots (although at least they’ve got Grimlock!), as you can see in the trailer. There’s also a new behind-the-scenes video (below) in which some of the folks from High Moon cop to the lack of gameplay variety in the last game, War for Cybertron, and how they put a huge focus this time on polish and multiple modes of play.

A flying mission is one example shown in the video, as the devs talk about how the choice is being left up to the player as to how they want to interact with the world and tackle each mission. There’s footage of Optimus Prime in action, who High Moon says has been strengthened considerably so that you really feel that he is one of the most powerful Transformers of all time. They also strove to create bigger, more “epic scale” battles for Fall of Cybertron, incorporating huge set pieces fights that “change all the rules.”

I’m cautiously optimistic. War for Cyberton was good but not great. Maybe this one will finally be the Batman: Arkham Asylum of the Transformers universe — the game that finally gets this franchise exactly right.
