Transformers: War for Cybertron out in 2010

This is sick!! As far as I can recall there’s never been a Transformers franchise that has been successfully converted into a game. Till this. Yes people we’re looking not just at a the most idealistic approach to a Transformers game, we’re looking at something that aims to become part of the Transformers canon. All the events, characters, places — the complete lore within TF:WFC forms aims to put together one complete story arc that puts the latest movie series to shame (oh wait, everything else puts the movie to shame if you think about it).

Transformers: War for Cybertron will be based on the Unreal engine and have some similarities with Gears of War save for the fact that, according to an interview with Matt Tieger of High Moon studios,

I think a lot of that comes from the fact that we are using the same engine – the Unreal Engine – and that we are 3rd person. However there are some notable differences. 1 – We are not a cover-based shooter (you think Megatron would take cover?), 2 – Transform anywhere, 3 – Special abilities add an additional layer of strategic depth, 4 – finally, Transformers has always been a team based property and each character has unique abilities so teamwork becomes pivotal. NONE of this should take away from the awesomeness that is Gears, honestly if gamers compare us positively to one of the all-time best games ever, I am thrilled!

As I said, this is definitely going to be epic. And not just because of the online cooperative play and the vastness (finally!) of a promising Transformers title. It’s always been about the toys. Oh, the toys.

Transformers War for Cybertron is being developed by High Moon Studios under close guidance by Hasbro.
