With these romantic date ideas covering a wide range of geekdoms, you’re bound to strike gold with at least one.
Here you go!
Geek Date Night Ideas
- Get your mood lamp(s) ready. Fluff up the pillows on the couch, and prepare for a Lord of the Rings marathon. For the nth time. Make sure you’ve got the chips, popcorn, or whatever ready. (Note: LoTR can easily be Harry Potter, Star Trek, Battlestar Galactica, Firefly, etc. – depending on how long you can stay up.)
- Have a LEGO night. Get out those bricks and minifigs and let your imaginations run wild.
- Cook up a feast for two. Get hold of the following cookbooks and take your pick of dishes: The Sriracha Cookbook and Cooking for Geeks.
- Play Hobbits for the night. Be hobbits for a night – eat, drink, and be merry any way you want. Get ideas from An Unexpected Cookbook: The Unofficial Book of Hobbit Cookery.
- Have a Whovian night. Dress up as your favorite Doctor or companion, and make Time Lord food. (See: Dining With The Doctor: The Unauthorized Whovian Cookbook)
- Play the Game of Thrones. Get the board game. Make sure you have Westorosian food.
- Whip out your retro games, and spend all night shooting aliens or avoiding ghosts.
- Test your musical skills with a Rock Band or Guitar Hero session.
- Pack a picnic basket, and go star gazing. Don’t forget your Star Trek blanket.
- Go to a concert at the park. There’s bound to be one in your area for sure.
- Go to your favorite bookshop, grab a cup of coffee (if available/allowed) and catch up on some reading.
- Visit a museum. Make it a whole day date and enjoy each other’s company even more.
- Go on a toy/comic store round. Instead of doing a round of the bars, plan a day of visiting toy/comic stores and binge shop. Or window shop if it’s all the same to you.
- Participate in a Geek Trivia night. Get other friends to complete your team if necessary.
- Make it a double (or triple, as the case may be) date, and play Cards Against Humanity. Better yet, make Cards Against Science.
- Still on the double date note, play your favorite board game with other couples. See: 10 Best Board Games for Adults.
- Throw a geek Valentine’s party. Make sure you’ve got the right party drinks.
- Plan an Amazing Race day. Be creative. Incorporate the use of your smartphones and what not. Best done with other couples, too.
- Plan a roadtrip. Check out Roadside America, where you’ll find all sorts of ideas. You can go eat at The Original Texas Chainsaw Massacre House, for example.
- Go on a The Walking Dead tour. You’ll find the itinerary and prices here.
- Go to the nearest LEGOLAND.
- Go to New Zealand and experience Middle Earth. Hobbiton Tours can help you with that.
- Visit Oamaru, the Steampunk Capital of New Zealand. While you’re there, enjoy the little blue penguins as well.
- Go to the Hobbit House of Montana if New Zealand is too far and too expensive. You better call them ASAP though, as the demand is rather high.
- Go to the UK, and take your pick of geek destinations: settings for Merlin, Camelot, and Stardust, for example. Visit Transcon Travel for more info.
