Verizon and Actiontec bring 100Mbps FiOS to homes
Here in Canada, my best bet for Internet connection speed seems to be about 10Mbps though cable Internet, though where I live, we can only get a maximum of 6Mbps.
In the US, they are talking about fiber-optic broadband to the home, and if that is not nice enough, they are now getting a new 100Mbps option for home users, thanks to a new router from Actiontec which was designed to Verizon”s FiOS specifications. Business users have been able to get the 100Mbps speed for a while, but now certain residential locations will be able to increase their speed too.
Another interesting development in my mind is the technology Verizon is rolling out that will allow the use of coaxial cable rather than Ethernet, which will allow for easier home installations, thus hopefully speeding up the rollout.
I can’t wait to be experiencing an internet connection speed, where my browser’s rendering engine is the slowest part in the chain.
