Video: Pressure sensitive computer keyboard concept

By andy

Here’s a pretty cool evolution of the standard computer keyboard, using flexible membranes printed with resistive carbon ink that react to changes in applied pressure due to more contact being made by the keys above.

The keyboard has a lot of interesting applications, such as the ability to input basic gestures, gaming that reacts to varying key pressure, font size changes based on typing pressure, and typo correction.

The keyboard was developed by The Applied Sciences Group at Microsoft and was entered into the UIST 2009 student innovation contest.
