Wii Sports wins TIME's Game of the Year award

It seems that TIME is taking a less “conservative” approach with their “XPTO of the Year” awards, first they nominated “You” the person of the year, and now they’re electing the Nintendo Wii’s title that every owner has (because it came with the console): Wii Sports.

There is no possible way to say this enough times: great graphics don’t make great games. Perfect Dark Zero looked like a Titian, but it was a snooze. Wii Sportsâ??a mini-sports anthology that includes golf, boxing, tennis, baseball and bowlingâ??looks like Colecovision. The little guys on the screen don’t even have arms. But it’s hilarious, and it shows off the power of the motion-sensitive Wii controller to put you right in the game, sweating and yelling and trying crazy spins and lunges and angles. The tennis game alone is worth the price of admission. Which is nothing, since it comes free with the Wii.

Although I love my Zelda, I have to admit that Wii Sports is a break through in terms of entertainment. Not everyone will appreciate it as much as they would a new Half Life, but for the first time in many years, we have a game that we can get anyone to play with us. Even my father who is in his 70’s has tried it out a few times with me. Congratulations, once again, Nintendo.
