Wonder Woman Ban by Elementary School: PC Brigade Much?

Last week, the superhero community was rocked by the news that an elementary school implemented a “Wonder Woman ban”. That may seem like an exaggeration, but it really isn’t.

If you haven’t read about it, the issue revolves around a little girl bringing a Wonder Woman lunchbox to school, and the school authorities considering that fact to be a violation of school policy.

The lunchbox in question:

How does it violate school policy? The letter sent to the parents of the little girl “clarifies” that.

Truth be told, I can see how violence can be associated with superheroes, but that’s only highlighted when reading comics and watching shows/movies. And even then, the highlights are the superheroes and the reason for what they do and they don’t even promote violence. They do what must be done to stop the villains.

This is exactly what I tell my 2-year-old and 4-year-old nephews when we talk about superheroes – and they get it. Yes, their school bags and water bottles sport DC characters. They have countless superhero t-shirts, books, and toys.

While I do believe that school has the students’ best interests at heart, I think this is a case of the PC Brigade in action. Or maybe, they just don’t know anything about superheroes so they immediately classify them as violent. (I believe don’t have to detail the good traits of Wonder Woman and what she stands for, but who wouldn’t want to be as lovely as Aphrodite and as wise as Athena? C’mon!!!) In that case, they might not be as fit as they think to shape the future of the country – if their judgment is flawed.

What the heck, if parents are being charged with “neglect” because they allowed their 11-year-old kid to play alone in the yard for more than an hour, we’re probably f#cked.

And we need superheroes more than ever to set things right.
