'Year Walk' Is a Different Kind of Game

Man, I love me some experimental games. Step outside the box with me and take a look at a mythology-driven game from Simogo called Year Walk.
Simogo, the game developer behind quirky iOS hits Beat Sneak Bandit and Bumpy Road, has announced its next game, slated for a release sometime this Winter. Year Walk is based on an ancient Swedish practice called “year-walking,” a sort of vision quest where one attempts to catch a glimpse of the future. The game leans heavily on supernatural folklore and myths that are local to Sweden, so expect some chills along with the inventive visuals and haunting story.
Year Walk is described as a first-person adventure game where players set out on a vision quest in the dark, dangerous woods of 19th Century Sweden. There, you’ll be able to interact with the whole world around you, including objects and creatures you’ll encounter along the way. Knowledge of fiction and mythology will come in handy, but it should be a title anyone can get lost in.
Simogo released a teaser trailer for the game (embedded above) which shows off very abstract-looking visuals that, according to the developer, “blur the line between two and three dimensions.” It’s all very mysterious and mystical, a point hammered home by Simogo’s final word on the game:
Mysteries and clues awaits everywhere in Year Walk, but to fully understand the events that took place on that cold New Year’s Eve players will have to delve deeper than the adventure and lose themselves between fact and fiction.
I’m in. How about you?
