The Pokemon TCG (trading card game) is one of the biggest facets of the Pokemon world.
First released with Base Set in 1996, the Pokemon TCG has continued to run alongside the mainline Pokemon series with new generations of cards releasing alongside each generation of the game. As of 2023, there have been over 100 different sets of the TCG, starting with Base and working its way through the Sword and Shield era.
The latest expansion in the TCG kicks off the Scarlet and Violet era with the Scarlet and Violet base set, which is due to be released on March 31, 2023.
The set will see the return of the ex card, made popular throughout the 2000s, as well as the AR subset, which was first introduced in Crown Zenith.
Wikipedia states that as of March 2022, The Pokemon TCG has sold over 43.2 billion cards.
