The Witcher

The Witcher is a franchise familiar to millions around the globe.

The series started as a combination of books and short stories, written by Polish author Andrzej Sapkowski and has since been adapted to video games, tabletop, comic books and most recently, TV.

Developed by CD Projekt RED, the first game in The Witcher series was released in 2007. By 2015, the original trilogy was completed and the third game, The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, received a PS5 and Xbox Series X upgrade in 2022.

CD Projekt RED has also confirmed they are not done with the series, announcing both a remake of the first game and a brand new trilogy in 2022.

The series had sold over 50 million units world wide as of May 2020.

The series has also seen a bunch of video game spinoffs, including Gwent and The Witcher: Monster Slayer, which shut down in 2023.

The TV series was developed by Laura Schmidt Hissrich for Netflix and starred Henry Cavill as Geralt.

It was confirmed that after the show’s third season, Cavill would be departing from the role of Geralt and would be replaced by Liam Hemsworth for the fourth season.

There have also been other TV adaptations for Netflix, including The Witcher: Nightmare of the Wolf and The Witcher: Blood Origin.
